Arkatype Studios ("Arkatype", "we", "us") is a digital agency based in Durban, South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and how it is handled, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").

2. What personal information we collect

We only collect personal information that you choose to give us directly, through the contact form on this site. That includes:

3. Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use it, which pages are popular, how people found the site, and general engagement, so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga and _ga_G-JTN8H6HS65) to distinguish visitors and sessions.

Google Analytics collects information such as pages viewed, time on site, referring website, approximate location (region or city level, not derived from anything more precise), and device or browser type. It does not collect your name or email address, and we have not configured it to identify individual visitors. This data is used in aggregate, we do not use it to build an individual profile of you or to make decisions about you personally.

Google acts as a data processor for this information. Its handling is described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking on any site, including this one, using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings.

This site also loads fonts from Google Fonts. As a technical side effect of that request, your device's IP address is sent to Google when the page loads, this is separate from Google Analytics and doesn't set any cookies.

4. Why we collect it

We use the information you submit through the contact form solely to respond to your enquiry, provide a quote, and discuss a potential project with you. We process this information on the basis of your consent, given when you voluntarily submit the form. We use Google Analytics data to understand and improve the site, on the basis of our legitimate interest in doing so.

5. Who else sees it

Submissions from the contact form are delivered to us using EmailJS, a third-party email delivery service. EmailJS processes the form data only to route it to our inbox, we do not permit them to use it for any other purpose. Google processes analytics and font-loading data as described in section 3. No other third party receives your information.

6. Where your information is processed

Because EmailJS and Google operate global infrastructure, your information may be processed on servers located outside South Africa. Both providers maintain their own compliance frameworks for cross-border data handling; we do not transfer your information anywhere ourselves beyond submitting it through these services.

7. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you and maintain a record of business correspondence, and no longer than necessary for that purpose. If you'd like us to delete your information sooner, contact us and we will do so. Google Analytics retains its data according to its own retention settings, which you can read about in Google's documentation.

8. Security

This site is served over HTTPS. It has no backend database of its own, form submissions are not stored on our servers, they are delivered directly to our email inbox via EmailJS. We take reasonable technical measures to keep the site itself secure.
